IN a week’s time, Hindus will be celebrating Deepavali, and it’s the time of the year that signifies the victory of light over darkness.
In the spirit of the occasion, state Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu distributed Deepavali goodie bags to some 520 families in the Perai state constituency at the Chai Leng Park multipurpose hall in Perai on Oct 23.
Deepavali, which falls on Oct 31 this year, is a time for joy and togetherness.
Each bag was filled with cooking necessities, specifically catered to assist the families in preparing for the festival.
The over 500 families, who gathered at the hall, were treated to lively music, followed by a hi-tea session at the end of the handover ceremony.
Sundarajoo, in his speech, reiterated his commitment to assisting his constituents in key areas of development and called for increased unity for a better Malaysia.
“As you all know, I am here as your representative for one reason, which is to give back to the community and to assist all of you in important areas that matter.
“With Deepavali around the corner, I sincerely hope this small yet meaningful contribution will help all of you prepare for the festival and enjoy a splendid time with your loved ones,” he said in his speech.
Sundarajoo also thanked generous donors who have contributed to the success of the initiative.
It was learned that RM50,000 was spent on providing the items for the people.
