By now you should have seen the list of nominees for this year's Star Awards on July 6.

Among the many nominations, there was one that took us by surprise. 

Who would have expected to see Hong Kong star Jessica Hsuan's name in the Best Actress category?

The 54-year-old ex-TVB actress received a nod for her performance in Mediacorp's first M18 mystery-drama Kill Sera Sera as a heartbroken mother obsessed with finding the killer of her daughter.

Jessica is up against Chantalle Ng (Hope Afloat), who also played her daughter in Kill Sera Sera, Felicia Chin (I Do, Do I?), Hong Ling (Unforgivable) and Jesseca Liu (Unforgivable).

Before Kill Sera Sera, Jessica starred in 2012 Mediacorp drama Bountiful Blessings as well as 2007's Parental Guidance. We're not the only ones surprised by Jessica's nomination.

Many have questioned why Jessica, who doesn't even work regularly in Singapore, was given the chance to be nominated. Others pointed out how "unfair" her nom is for local actresses who have been working hard. 

While haters are busy scratching their heads, Jessica, on the other hand, is just happy local audiences enjoyed her performance in Kill Sera Sera. 

Speaking to Chinese media Shin Min Daily News, the actress, who's now in Hong Kong, shared that she only takes on roles or scripts that she likes these days. What matters most to her now is that she has a good time on set and gets along with her co-stars. 

"Those are the most important things when filming. As for winning awards, I'll just go with the flow!" she chirped.

Jessica also shared that she "hopes" to attend the ceremony in July. 

"It would be my honour if I'm invited and can get to be at the grand event. Whether or not I win the award is secondary, most importantly I would want to show my support," she said.

Fans can vote for cast their votes here and support their favourites before the polls close on July 6. Catch the Backstage LIVE event of Star Awards 2025 from 3.30pm - 10.30pm on mewatch or Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel on July 6 (Sunday).

The Walk Of Fame will be from 5pm - 6.30pm, on mewatch, Ch 8, Ch U, and Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel on the same day.

It will be followed by the Star Awards 2025 Live Show from 7pm - 10pm on mewatch, Ch 8, Ch U, and Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel.

The night will end off with the Post-Party from 10pm – 1030pm on mewatch, Ch U, and Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel.
