Stefanie Sun Took Ages To Realise This About Her Taiwanese Aunt

It's no secret Stefanie Sun made her big break in Taipei over 20 years ago, but what many may not know is that she actually has a relative there.

During her AUT NIHILO 25th-anniversaryconcert tour at the Taipei Dome over the weekend (May 15 to 17), the 47-year-old local songbird unprecedentedly took the opportunity to give a shoutout to her aunt, who was sitting in the audience that day.

"Did you guys know I have an aunt in Taipei?" asked Stefanie, who made her showbiz debut in Taiwan in 2000.

"Don't know [right]? Actually, when I was in Taipei, it was all thanks to her for looking after me,” she revealed.

The singer went on to share that her aunt, who is her uncle's Taiwanese wife, is very cute and gentle, but has an accent that she struggled to understand at first.

"At the beginning, she'd keep saying 'An Zhu, An Zhu'. I only realised after quite some time that she had been calling my name," laughed Stefanie, whose Chinese name is "Yan Zi".

To help her warm up her voice and take care of her health, her aunt often made nourishing soups for her.

In her Taiwanese-accented Mandarin, her aunt would say: “An zhu, come drink the ‘an ou’.” “An ou” refers to “yan wo” or bird’s nest in Mandarin.

“Thank you, aunt, for your chicken soup and ‘an ou’. An Zhu loves it very much. Thank you,” she beamed.
