SUBANG JAYA: Some students at a private university here are still in shock and shaken over a slashing incident involving a foreigner and his former girlfriend, which took place on campus yesterday.

Checks by the New Straits Times found that students continued attending classes, although some admitted to feeling uneasy following the incident.

An architecture student, who wished to be known only as Emmy, said she found out about the attack after receiving a message from a friend, who also forwarded a video clip of the incident.

"I felt a bit paranoid coming to campus today, as it made me feel I need to constantly watch my surroundings," she said.

Emmy also called for stricter enforcement of rules on prohibited items within the campus, pointing out that many objects, such as knives and other dangerous tools used in classes, could easily be turned into weapons.

Mass communication student Chin, 21, said he found out about the incident through a social media platform.

"I felt relatively safe after learning that the culprit had been apprehended.

"Although this is the first time I've heard of such a case here, it didn't really affect me much because incidents like this can happen anywhere," he said.

Like Chin, Sunny, an international student from China, said news of the slashing incident quickly spread among foreign students through group chats.

Sunny and her fellow international students hope the university will step up security measures to further safeguard students' safety.

Aishath A., an international student from the Maldives, said she had always believed the university to be safe.

"Even if it's an isolated case, it shouldn't happen at all in a place of learning. I hope the university will look into this matter seriously," she said.

Yesterday, it was reported that a foreigner had stabbed his former girlfriend on the university grounds.

The police confirmed that a 20-year-old woman sustained a slash wound to her neck and that the culprit was arrested shortly after the incident.

The suspect, 21, has been remandedfor four days to assist in police investigations into the case.

The New Straits Times has reached out to the private university for comments. It is understood that the university will issue a statement on the matter soon.
