KUCHING (July 3): Swim Art Club (SAC) of Kuching made waves at the recent MAS/NSC/Milo Splash Swim Series held at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre.

It obtained 15 gold, 17 silver and 14 bronze medals to finish second overall for the East Malaysia region.

The Splash Swim Series, organised by Malaysia Aquatics (MAS), took place concurrently across three regions: Northern region (Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang), Central region (Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Johor) and East Malaysia region (Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan). The decentralised format was introduced to enhance accessibility and nurture grassroots swimming talent across the nation.

The Kuching club hosted a prize presentation ceremony at its premises on Tuesday to recognise the achievements of its young swimmers. The spotlight was cast on two standout swimmers Roman Aryan Raphael and Ethan Tin Yu Khai.

Roman, competing in the Boys 12–13 category, delivered a stellar performance by breaking three meet records in the 200m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 200m butterfly. Ethan, from the Boys 10–11 category, set a new meet record in the 50m butterfly.

“I’m incredibly proud of how the team performed. Their hard work, discipline, and team spirit really paid off,” said SAC head coach Gary Lau.

“This is a young team but they’ve shown maturity beyond their years and a real hunger for improvement. Every swimmer gave their best, and these results are a true reflection of their dedication in training,” he added.

Looking ahead, SAC has set its sights on Leg 2 of the SportExcel Circuit from Aug 1-3 at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex Aquatic Centre.

Meanwhile, the club extended its appreciation to 38 Yayasan Cinta Amal, SugarBun, Dré Coklat and YKDC Mining Consultant Sdn Bhd as its dedicated sponsors.
