TM delivers steady first-quarter performance

PETALING JAYA: Telekom Malaysia Bhd

(TM), which recorded a net profit of RM401.25mil in the first quarter ended March 31, 2025 (1Q25), will contine to focus on strengthening its core operations, scaling enterprise and digital services and enhancing cost efficiency to stay on track with its 2025 strategic commitments.

This profitability was a 5.6% decline from the same quarter a year ago.

Revenue rose slightly by 0.5% to RM2.85bil driven primarily by higher contributions from data, other telecommunication services and the education segment.

Capital expenditure for the quarter was RM280mil, accounting for 9.8% of revenue on track to meet the 2025 guidance range, TM said in a statement. Fixed broadband subscribers, meanwhile, increased by 1.6%.

TM group chief executive officer Amar Huzaimi Md Deris said TM’s performance in 1Q25 reflected the disciplined execution of its strategic priorities aimed at long-term value creation amidst dynamic market landscape.

“Nevertheless, our fundamentals remain strong, marked by steady performance, continued operational efficiency, and a growing customer base.

“During the quarter, we sustained fixed broadband subscribers’ growth and continued to delight our customers through attractive Unifi UniVerse bundled device offerings, delivering seamless home internet, mobile and lifestyle solutions,” he added.

He said that the recent strategic collaboration with U Mobile to provide high-capacity 5G fibre backhaul is a testament of TM’s strength and ability to deliver at scale, speed and quality.
