TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker based in Taiwan, said at an investor conference that it plans to begin commercial production of its A14 process in 2028, extending its roadmap as demand for advanced semiconductors rises.

The company said A14, its second-generation nanosheet transistor technology, is expected to deliver a 10% to 15% speed improvement at the same power consumption, or a 25% to 30% reduction in power consumption at the same speed, compared with TSMC’s 2nm process. Logic density is also expected to increase by nearly 20%.

The A14 process will follow TSMC’s 2nm node, which entered high-volume production in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The company’s roadmap shows A16 arriving in 2027 with backside power delivery, while the initial A14 process will not include the technology. A12, scheduled for 2029, is expected to add backside power delivery.

Chairman C.C. Wei said A14 production is expected to exceed the volume of the 2nm process. TSMC also plans to introduce A13 and A12 in 2029.

Competing roadmaps show Samsung targeting 1.4nm production in 2027, while Intel aims to begin 14A risk production in 2028, followed by mass production in 2029.
