TVB Actress Katy Kung Accused Of Frequenting Racecourse "To Hunt For A Rich Husband" 'Cos She Has No Jobs

Netizens find joy in kaypoh-ing about celebrities' love lives and they've most certainly locked in on their newest target.

Who? TVB actress Katy Kung.

Recently, the 35-year-old star was spotted at a racecourse with Hong Kong journalist Icy Wong.

Katy was said to be very friendly, and would even wave at people after seeing them take photos of her.

Another netizen then commented that they'd seen Katy at the racecourse many times recently and that her regular appearance suggests that she doesn't have many job opportunities of late.

The most absurd part? Said netizen then accused Katy of frequenting the racecourse because she's "eagerly trying to hunt for a rich husband" now that her career is going downhill.

The actress' career hasn't exactly been on the up in the past few months, despite winning the Best Actress title at the TVB Anniversary Awards last year.

She reportedly hasn't had acting jobs for the past eight months and only has one drama, Hong Kong Exploration Map, left to air with the broadcaster.

Earlier this year, there were also rumours that Katy intended to leave TVB once her contract ends, though she has personally refuted the speculations.

So what does she have to say about netizens accusing of her wanting to be a gold digger this time?

Speaking to Hong Kong media HK01, Katy explained that she was only there to support her good pal Icy and her husband, who are presumably taking part in the horse races.

She said that she had promised them that she would personally head down to cheer them on as long as she has the time.

Katy also denied that she was there to look for a rich husband like what the netizen postulated.

When asked if Icy did try to introduce any potential guys to her, the actress then said: "She really didn't, we rarely talk about such things."

She went on to say that she's pretty chill about relationships right now, and isn't in a rush to get married as she still wishes to focus on her career.

Katy also emphasised that, though she doesn't have dramas slated to air for now, she has had endless job opportunities since she was crowned Best Actress in 2024.

She said she's happy to have received a lot of support from brands and clients after her win, and is making use of the time she has before starting on a new production to make more money.

Despite being in the limelight for 17 years, Katy only had one high-profile relationship, which was with former TVB actor Patrick Tang, 51.

The two started dating in 2010, but the relationship eventually ended only after two years.

Katy was even accused of dumping Patrick after falling for someone else. However, the rumour was later rubbished after Patrick was caught going out with 2007 Miss Hong Kong champion Kayi Cheung.

She has also been romantically linked to other celebs like Kelvin Kwan, James Ng and Sammy Shum, as well as a Malaysian businessman named Bryan, though she has never confirmed any of these relationships.

In 2023, Katy let slip that she was dating someone and the guy was later revealed to be Japanese model-turned-pastry chef, Matsuoka Tetsuya.

Katy and Matsuoka were said to be already living together at that time, and the actress even claimed that she “would not rule out” the possibility of becoming a bride that year, though it did not happen in the end.

But it's just a matter of time, we reckon?
