Taiwanese Singer Jeffrey Kung Marries M’sian Heiress
Just months after getting engaged in March 2024, LA-based Taiwanese singer-songwriter Jeffrey Kung, 43, tied the knot with Malaysian socialite Eunice Jaymie Tan.
He announced the news on May 20, also known as 520 Day aka 'I Love You Day', saying they registered their marriage at a Beverly Hills courthouse at the end of last year.
The couple now reside in Los Angeles.
They plan to hold two wedding ceremonies later this year—one in LA and another in Malaysia.
Jeffrey, who made a splash at age 20 by debuting as the 76th-generation descendant of Confucius and whose sister is former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Crystal Kung Minkoff, shared that he met Eunice online in 2023.
He recalled being struck by Eunice’s beauty when he first saw her photo and decided to leave her a comment but did not get a response.
Nevertheless, he persisted and through the exchange of messages, the two slowly got to know each other.
Jeffrey said when they met finally in person for the first time months later, it felt as if the world stood still.
“She was even more beautiful than I imagined. To this day, I still remember the moment she walked towards me — the feeling in my heart was indescribable,” he recalled. At that moment, he was certain she was the one.
Interestingly, his proposal didn’t go smoothly at first.
He had planned a romantic proposal in Bangkok and sought Eunice’s dad’s blessings in advance.
However, when her father replied, “I’m not sure,” Jeffrey called off the plan and was so disappointed that he cried that night.
Later, Jeffrey mustered the courage and planned another proposal.
It was only later when the couple returned to Malaysia that Jeffrey discovered a misunderstanding with Eunice's dad when he sought her hand in marriage.
When her father said “I’m not sure yet”, he had actually meant that he was unsure whether Jeffrey was really going to propose.
Laughing about the mix-up, Jeffrey said, “This might be the biggest misunderstanding of my life.”
Eunice comes from a prominent family.
Her grand uncle was the late Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng, Malaysian business magnate and founder of the IOI Properties Group.
Her father, KS Tan, who is Shin Cheng’s nephew, once served as a senior executive at French spirits maker Pernod Ricard China.
Eunice grew up in several international cities, attending Chinese International School in Hong Kong and Shanghai American School in China.
She later earned a Master’s degree in Education from The University of Melbourne, and worked as a teacher in Australia for seven years.
