Tang Jie-Ee Wei clear Asian meet first round, Low-Noraqilah enter main draw

PETALING JAYA: World champions mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei lived up to expectations by advancing to the second round of the Asian Championships after defeating Japan’s Haruki Kawabe-Kokona Ishikawa on Tuesday (April 7).
Playing at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center, Tang Jie-Ee Wei cruised past the world No. 138 with a 21-10, 21-10 win in just 36 minutes.
They will face either Thailand’s Phuwanat Horbanluekit-Benyapa Aimsaard or India’s Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto next.
Another Malaysian pair, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie, also progressed comfortably after beating India’s Rohan Kapoor-Ruthvika Gadde 21-13, 21-19.
The eighth seeds will take on either Bangladesh’s Jumar Al-Amin-Urmi Akter or Taiwan’s Chen Cheng-kuan-Hsu Yin-hui in the second round.
Independent pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien also progressed after defeating Ashith Surya-Amrutha Pramuthesh of India 21-16, 21-15 in 31 minutes.
They will next face either China’s Guo Xinwa-Chen Fang Hui or Taiwan’s Wu Guan-xun-Lee Chia-hsin.
Meanwhile, women’s doubles pair Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah marked an impressive debut by qualifying for the main draw after topping Group D in the qualifiers.
