PETALING JAYA: Thank you to those who stood by us.

Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei expressed their gratitude to the people who kept supporting them during tough times after smashing into the World Championships final.

World No. 4 Tang Jie-Ee Wei created history by becoming the first Malaysian mixed doubles pair to reach the final of the world meet after beating world No. 8 homesters Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue 21-18, 21-16 at the Adidas Arena in Port de la Chapelle in Paris on Saturday (Aug 30).

It was a stunning turnaround by the duo after they split up briefly in March due to a strained relationships before resolving their differences and reuniting quickly less than a month later.

“It’s a World Championships and we managed to overcome everything that happened to us step by step,” Ee Wei told the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

“I'm thankful for those who stood by us when those things (the split) happened.

“Because just like they don't know the story behind this. It was a tough time for us, our family and everyone.

“We just don't want to comment much about this. We stay focused on our training and just believe on what we do. Because only we know what happened and what we're doing,” added Ee Wei.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei will take on China’s world No. 2 Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin for the title on Sunday (Aug 31).
