KOTA KINABALU: The flood situation in Tawau has stabilised as of Sunday (July 26) morning, with displaced victims remaining at 335 people from 96 families, as of 8am.
These victims from four villagers namely Kampung Tanjung Batu Keramat, Tanjung Batu Darat, Tanjung Batu Otentik and Kampung Kinabutan Tiku Batu 6, are now at the Tawau Sports Complex Multipurpose hall, the Sabah Civil Defence Force said.
Volunteers have started to move in with assistance, sending bottled water, dry food and cleaning up of homes.
Tawau was declared a disaster zone on Saturday when floods hit many parts of the district in the wee hours earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, the Tawau Water Department is cleaning up clogged and mud filled assets at its water treatment plants due to the floods.
Therefore, water pressure remains affected and low in most places.
The department had asked for patience and understanding from consumers as workers try their best to carry out cleaning works as quickly as they can to restore water supply.
