Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s engagement might be the hot topic among Swifties, but NFL fans are wondering how the athlete’s personal life might impact his professional career.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has toyed with retirement over the last year, but his girlfriend’s lucky number 13 might be playing into his decision. According to NewsNation, Kelce is starting his 13th year in the NFL, a career that began in 2013 when he was drafted by the team. Do we sense a Swift Easter egg in the making?

If you don’t know Swift’s origin story about her favorite number, let’s go back to 2009 with her appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

“I was born on the 13th. I turned 13 on Friday the 13th. My first album went gold in 13 weeks. My first No. 1 song had a 13-second intro,” she explained, per CNN. “Every time I’ve won an award, I’ve been seated in either the 13th seat, the 13th row, the 13th section, or row M, which is the 13th letter. Basically, whenever a 13 comes up in my life, it’s a good thing.”

Last year’s Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles made Kelce rethink his football career, but it’s possible that Swift’s lucky number came into play when he decided to return for another season. “Since he announced his return to the Chiefs in late February, all signs have pointed to the 2025 season being Kelce’s last,” ESPNnoted on Aug. 26. “Since June, Kelce, who is in the final year of his contract, has spoken about his future with the team through only this season.”

With a wedding ceremony in the works and a possible move to Cleveland, Ohio, with his future bride, Kelce is indicating that he’s ready to hang up his cleats. He won’t sit idly by, though, because Hollywood is calling. From a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2 this summer to his recent fashion collaboration with American Eagle, he’s going to have no shortage of income.

The number 13 has been lucky for Swift, and now, it could be Kelce’s favorite too. There seem to be enough Easter eggs hidden in plain sight — Kelce is hinting that he’s ready to retire.
