SINGAPORE - A 17-year-old teenager is slated to be charged in court on July 3 after he allegedly
trespassed onto the train tracks
along Upper Changi Road East in June.
The boy will be charged with one count of wilfully endangering safety and one count of criminal trespass, said the police in a release on July 2.
Police said they received a report on June 10 about a person who trespassed onto the MRT tracks between Tanah Merah and Simei stations.
The teenager was subsequently arrested on July 1 .
After the teenager’s alleged point of entry was identified, the Land Transport Authority immediately enhanced security measures at the location to prevent similar incidents from reoccurring, the police said.
In early June, SMRT said it had filed a police report after footage that appeared to have been taken from an MRT track were posted on social media.
The video was taken in dimly lit conditions and shows a train passing by on a nearby track. The person filming it later moves closer to the train, before crossing the tracks.
The clip was taken near where nearby construction works are ongoing for new viaducts connecting to the future East Coast Integrated Depot, SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai said in a statement then.
If convicted of wilfully endangering safety, the teenager could face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
For criminal trespass, he could be sentenced to a jail term of up to three months, fined up to $1,500, or both.

17 years old just wondering will the judge pass sentence as per what such offences would be given or would likely be let off with just a warning as our judicial system usually let off teenagers lightly

Most likely let off lightly or just under reformative training. Penalty for teens committing crimes is very light so they do not hesitate or think before their committ crimes especially serious one.

they are testing spore law. If law not strict to them, these teenagers will commit more serious crime such as school bullies.

You are right. Based on past cases of youngsters committing certain offences that required jail term, they are let off lightly. This is sending out the wrong messages to those youngsters who think they can behaved in such a manner
