Telkom Indonesia weighs sale of venture arm MDI Ventures

TelkomMetra, a subsidiary of state-owned PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero), is weighing a sale of MDI Ventures, the telecom group’s corporate venture capital arm, according to four people familiar with the matter and a letter seen by CNBC.
Jefferies is advising on the strategic review, which is still at a preliminary stage and may not lead to a deal.
The letter asked stakeholders to share their views by July 17.
Founded in 2015, MDI has backed more than 90 companies across 12 countries and has US$830 million in total committed assets under management.
The review comes as Telkom seeks to streamline its portfolio.
Local media have reported that Telkom was asked to shut 10 subsidiaries by end-June, though that could not be independently verified.
It also follows a June court ruling that sentenced former MDI chief executive Donald Surjana Wihardja to five years in prison and former investment executive Aldi Adrian Hartanto to two years over a US$25 million joint investment in TaniHub.
Indonesian startup funding fell to US$213 million in 2025, down 38% from a year earlier, according to Tracxn.
MDI said it was not in a position to comment.
