Kuala Terengganu Member of Parliament Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim had earlier advised Anwar Ibrahim to be more careful when choosing what to wear for the presentation of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) in Parliament.

In a post that has since been deleted, he questioned the Prime Minister’s choice to wear a batik shirt that he believed had an Indonesian design.

“I’m not going to defend my mistake”

Ahmad Amzad said the event was meant to showcase the uniqueness of Malaysian batik as part of the nation’s heritage and identity.

His post quickly sparked backlash, leading him to delete it, according to Sinar Harian.

“The owner of Bujins Batik clarified that the shirt was actually their design. I’m not going to defend my mistake, I only found out when my officer told me. I was on the road from KL to Kuala Terengganu and hadn’t been keeping up with the responses,” he said.

He has since publicly apologised and explained that he was simply sharing his opinion as an MP who cares about the local batik industry.

“I was just sharing my thoughts”

Ahmad Amzad also thanked everyone who gave him feedback and admitted it was his mistake, saying he felt the need to set things right.

“To the Prime Minister, I’m sorry. I was just sharing my thoughts as an MP from Terengganu who often speaks with local batik makers. One thing that keeps coming up is concern about the future of Malaysia’s batik industry. Again, I truly apologise. With respect,” he said.
