The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have welcomed their second child, a daughter named Lilibet Diana. The baby will go by the shorter name of Lili. The girl was born on Friday 4 June at 11:40 weighing 7 lbs 11 oz in a hospital in Santa Barbara, California. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and are already home in Montecito where the family moved last year. She is the Queen's 11th great-grandchild and is eighth in line to the throne.Lilibet was the nickname given to the queen when she was a young girl. The decision to use the moniker proves the couple's decision to depart the royal family, nor to give a revealing interview to Oprah, has not weakened the relationship between Harry and his grandmother. “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet,” a statement said. “Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honour her beloved late grandmother, the Princess of Wales.”Harry and Meghan already have one child, Archie, who was born on 6 May 2019. Meghan suffered a miscarriage last year, which she wrote about for The New York Times. The couple shared a message of thanks to all well-wishers on their Archewell website, noting that they are now both on parental leave. "On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili," said the pair. "She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family."Instead of sending gifts, the duke and duchess suggested supporting or learning more about a number of chosen organisations working for women and girls, including Girls Inc., Harvest Home, CAMFED or Myna Mahila Foundation.Sign up to our free weekly newsletter for skincare and self-care, the latest cultural hits to read and download, and the little luxuries that make staying in so much more satisfying.SIGN UPPlus, sign up here to get Harper’s Bazaar magazine delivered straight to your door.SIGN UPThis content is created and maintained by a third party, and imported onto this page to help users provide their email addresses.
