As students move from high school to college, the journey can often feel overwhelming
Questions about what academic path to pursue, how to balance new responsibilities, and where to find support are common concerns. That's why initiatives like The Risers at Taylor's College exist — to help guide and empower students as they prepare for the next steps in their college journey.
The Risers is more than just a student ambassador programme — it's a community focused on helping students grow

The ambassadors play a crucial role in supporting students both academically and personally. They engage with secondary school students across Malaysia, offering insights and advice on what to expect in college. The Risers initiative also highlights the importance of a well-rounded college experience. Beyond just good grades, the programme helps students develop leadership skills, build a sense of community, and learn how to navigate life beyond the classroom. This supportive network also helps students balance their academic ambitions with personal growth, preparing them for success in all areas of life.
For Heng Jui Ching, an architecture student, she joined The Risers to give back to other students, especially high schoolers who have questions about college life

Understanding that many students may be unsure about higher education, Heng wanted to share her positive experiences to encourage others to take the next step."I genuinely love my studies, from college till university, and I truly believe that Taylor's has given me a good platform to nurture myself. Thus, I wanted to contribute back to the school while also sharing my positive experience through encouragement to anyone who has doubts about higher education," she said.Heng's role as an ambassador allows her to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and help them understand how their high school studies can impact their future careers.

"I believe most students approach me asking how their current high school studies impact what they want to study as a career. I use my own metaphors and stories to motivate them in achieving their aspirations," she shared.
As a result of joining The Risers programme, Heng has also developed leadership skills that are adaptable to different environments. "Being in The Risers, I not only practice leadership, but also learn from others, which helps me adapt in various situations," she added.

One of his most memorable experiences was the Taylor’s Cruisers event, where a virtual reality (VR) roving truck brought Taylor's to secondary schools. This allowed students to explore the campus through VR, making education more accessible and engaging.
As someone passionate about education, becoming part of The Risers ambassadors felt like a natural fit for Saad. The role allowed him to use his communication skills to guide students in finding their best path to tertiary education, while also giving back to the community.
"It offered me a chance to step out of my comfort zone, engage with diverse groups, and enhance my leadership abilities," he shared.

"Seeing their reactions to Taylor's through VR was incredibly rewarding. It highlighted the importance of accessibility in education and made a significant impact on their academic journeys," he added.
For Saad, being a part of The Risers is about helping shape the next generation of students while growing alongside them.

It's about creating a warm, inclusive environment where students feel supported as they transition into college life. Acting as trusted seniors, the ambassadors provide personal advice and mentorship, helping new students navigate challenges with confidence.
At its core, The Risers initiative is about preparing students for the future, inside and outside the classroom
