The Slopes Are Beautiful—But Genting’s Roads Are Still Brutal
·2025-07-05 19:04
It happened again.
On July 2, 2025, a tour bus at Genting Highlands lost control inside an open-air parking structure. The bus reportedly veered off course, slammed into the metal parking barrier, and caused part of the structure to collapse — crushing a car parked underneath. The force of the crash also shattered the windshield of the bus.
Thankfully, no fatalities were reported, but it’s hard not to feel uneasy. It’s not the first time this has happened in Genting. Just a few weeks earlier, another tour bus carrying 25 passengers skidded near KM 12 of the winding descent from the hilltop resort. Although only minor injuries were reported, the situation could have been far worse.
The road to Genting is known for its steep gradients — up to 10% incline — and sudden, sharp turns. It’s scenic, but it’s also one of the most dangerous mountain routes in Malaysia. Despite having emergency escape ramps and signage, accidents continue to happen.
