Singapore’s MRT network continues to grow, with ongoing projects like the Tengah and Seletar lines and the full rollout of the Thomson-East Coast line. Now, Singapore is set to introduce its eighth MRT line, the Cross Island Line (CRL), the longest fully underground line to date.

The CRL is being built in three phases, with construction for Phases 1 and 2 already underway. Phase 1 of the CRL comprises twelve stations, stretching from CR2 (name to be confirmed) to Bright Hill Interchange. It will serve key residential and industrial zones such as Loyang, Tampines, Pasir Ris, Defu, Hougang, Serangoon North and Ang Mo Kio, with improved accessibility to recreational spots like Changi Beach Park and Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.
Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District, and the Changi region will be among the major areas connected by the line, which stretches across the east, west and northeast. With eight interchange stations planned, the CRL will provide smoother, more versatile routes across the island.
Journeys from West Coast to Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park are expected to be shortened by up to 40 minutes.
Additionally, a four-station extension between Pasir Ris and Punggol is set to launch in 2032, alongside the completion of Phase 2.
