PETALING JAYA: The more than six-decade long wait for a local to lift the Malaysian Open trophy continues but this year, the rookies showed glimpses that there was hope.

No local golfer has won the Malaysian Open since it was first started in 1962, with the late P. Gunasegaran coming closest when he finished joint runner-up after a three-way playoff won by Sweden’s Joakim Haeggman in 1994.
