For her wedding to Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez wowed in not one, not two, but so many different types of designer dresses for the multi-day Venice celebration. However, the most viral dress of them all, by far, is her wedding dress. For the actual wedding, Sanchez donned a corseted, lace gown from Dolce & Gabbana. It was inspired by her fashion inspo, Sophia Loren, specifically recreating a variation of Loren’s wedding dress look in the 1958 film Houseboat. Many thought it was a lavish gown, but one broadcasting and journalism giant had something else to say.

In case you missed it, Katie Couric called out the wedding, and even took a jab at Sanchez’s gown in Jack Schlossberg’s now-archived Instagram post via New York Post.

“Welcome to the eighties — when big hair and conspicuous consumption ruled. Apparently, tacky is back,” she said about the custom lace number.

Now, here’s the thing: a lot of people on Instagram agreed with her sentiment, commenting things under the Vogue feature like “She manages to make everything took so cheap and tacky no matter what the price may be – that’s an unusual talent,” “she always looks like she’s wearing shein,” referring to the fast fashion brand that’s been under fire for a plethora of reasons.

This marks the first time Couric has publicly commented on the former journalist, and this is kind of a far cry from what Couric commented on the Bezosfamily. In a Jan 2025 podcast interview with Who Is Government with Michael Lewis, Couric briefly mentioned Bezos, saying, “I know Jeff Bezos, I’m quite fond of him.” But this jab at his now-wife has people wondering what happened.
