This Family Ate 5kg Of Durian In 30 Minutes At An Airport

Earlier this week, a family from China were heading home from their holiday in Chiang Mai, Thailand, when they ended up having to end their trip on a very unusual note.

The Li family of five bought waaay too many durians on their trip. “The plan was to eat the durians on the way to the airport, and finish them by the time we had to board the plane,” said one of the family members. They had about 5.5kg worth of durians, according to a report.

“However, we couldn’t resist having more good food on the way, and only [had time to] finish all the durian right before we had to check in,” he explained.

A video shows the family eating the durians outside the airport at what looked like the taxi drop-off point.

They ended up sharing the entire lot of durians among them, with each person having to scarf down “around four or five durians the size of fists” in 30 minutes. There was gagging, eye-rolling, and lots of complaining.

The experience was so traumatising, the family later said they “never want to see durians again”.

However, their struggle did not just end there — the family realised their breath smelled heavily of durians, even after boarding the plane.

The smell was so pungent, there were passengers who complained about “people secretly bringing durians on board”.

The family said they felt embarrassed and apologetic.

Mr Li said: “We are sorry, we won’t be so stubborn anymore. I never want to hear the word ‘durian’ in this lifetime ever again.”

Durians are generally banned on most airlines and even public transport and some hotels due to their strong smell — not to mention that to some other people, the stench can be very, very offensive.

Not sure about you, but we’ll never want to find ourselves on the same plane as some durian-bingeing passengers.
