Staying true to their name, After Hours Gelato is the place to hit up for some late-night ice cream goodness. Located at the new ORTO in West Coast, the cosy minimalist serves up great vibes alongside some unique ice cream flavours like Soya Bean Milk with Dough Fritter (from S$5.50), Grape Yakult with Oreo Bits (from S$5), and Watermelon Soju (from S$5.50).

After Hours Gelato is just a four-minute walk from Haw Par Villa MRT station and has over 16 gelato flavours on their menu, all of which sound good — you’ll probably be spoilt for choice.

You can choose to pair your ice cream with their Signature Golden Butter Toast (from S$9.50), thick and well toasted with a crispy crust and a pillowy-soft centre. We opted for scoops of Momo Sencha (from S$5.50) and Dark Chocolate (from S$5), served alongside cream, maple syrup, and cookie crumbs. However, I do feel like I would have enjoyed it more if they used Shibuya-style toast

I actually liked the pairing of the toast with the tea-based, white peach-infused Momo Sencha ice cream — if springtime had a flavour, it would be this. Personally, I am not a big fan of chocolate ice cream because it can get overwhelmingly sweet. But After Hours managed to deliver a good bitter-sweet balance with their Dark Chocolate ice cream.

Alternatively, Waffles (from S$7) come drizzled in maple syrup, dusted with icing sugar and cookie crumbs. We paired the waffles with a scoop of Soya Bean Milk with Dough Fritter (from S$5.50) and Grape Yakult with Oreo Bits (from S$5). The waffle was thick and fluffy but the star of the show was truly the Soya Bean Milk ice cream — it’s also a crowd favourite, and I can see why.

Each element of the Soya Bean Milk Ice Cream was prominent, taste-wise — so you know for sure they’re using the real stuff. The ice cream also came with generous chunks of you tiao or dough fritters which provided additional flavour. Grape Yakult with Oreo Bits was also an interesting flavour – kinda like the childhood Kittyboy cream cone. If you love sour things, then you will enjoy this. Although I think this would pair really well with the Tahitian Vanilla (from S$5).

Other flavours we tried included the Watermelon Soju (from S$5.50) which is one of the dairy-free options offered. Surprisingly the ice cream had a refreshing finish – not exactly something you would expect from watermelon soju. Many customers have likened After hours’ White Chrysanthemum (from S$5) to be similar to that of Bird’s of Paradise – ideal for those who enjoy floral and/or botanical-inspired flavours.

After Hours also has a selection of drinks but my favourite was the White Peach Calpis (S$6). The drink was refreshing, especially on a hot day, and bonus points for not being overly sweet. It was served with two calpis marshmallows — like a fancy cocktail.

Overall, After Hours passes all the vibe checks and is a great place in the west to chill at over a scoop of ice cream. Make sure to take plenty of glam photos with their little mirror sign or even around the cafe while you’re here!
