Move aside, i Light Singapore.

Johor Bahru now has its very own night festival, as if we needed another reason to cross the border.

Luna Lights Wonderland is a roving carnival based in Malaysia and it has made a pit stop in our neighbouring JB from now till 29 July 2024.

Sure, its location at Taman Bukit Layang-Layang in Pasir Gudang isn’t exactly the most accessible from the CIQ checkpoint but trust me, the 30 minutes drive is worth it.

Or, come down after having your customary food, shopping and self-care trips (which is most likely the case).

The event space is massive, spanning over 28,300 square metres. If you’re like me and need a little help visualising that, imagine fitting about five football fields in there.

It makes sense though, as Luna Lights Wonderland houses five themed zones for their light art installations: Romance, Space, Ocean, Misty Forest and Animals.

This entire section of the park is illuminated by 1.4 million LED bulbs, earning the event the title of the largest lighting festival in the Malaysia Book of Records.

In the Romance section, you’ll find heart-shaped light displays (a little cliché, I know) perfect for posing with your partner. Meanwhile, the Ocean section is sure to captivate children with large inflatable marine animals, including one that looks suspiciously like Finding Nemo.

On the other hand, inflatable land animals like elephants can be found at the Animals section.

However, I can already foresee that the Space and Misty Forest sections will draw the most crowds.

The former is where you can find inflatable planets in a vibrant array of colours, an inflatable BB-8 and R2-D2 display and even a Star Wars Tunnel. As for the latter, “roll” along the Aurora River as you take in the mesmerising views while being surrounded by fog.

If you’re planning to make this event a date, be sure to bring your picnic mats and settle down in the LED picnic area before exploring the Tunnel of Love attraction (forgo any hanky panky, there are kids around!).

In addition to the usual carnival rides like bouncy castles and bumper cars, there are plenty of other activities, such as photo booths and game stalls.

Feeling peckish after all the fun? Head on over to the rows of food stalls. Although the full list of vendors have yet to be released, one confirmed vendor is Kouno House, where you can indulge in halal takoyaki and sushi.

Tickets for adults are priced at RM15 (S$4.30), while it’s RM8 (S$2.30) for kids under 12. And if your little one is under a year old, they get in absolutely free. Tickets can be purchased using the Touch’n Go e-wallet app available on the App Store and Google Play.

Which part of this festival are you most excited to experience?
