For the rest of us, The Vegan Society defines vegan as avoiding ‘all forms of exploitation or use of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose… whereas plant-based simply refers to a diet that focuses on eating mostly plants.’

More Brits are eating plant-based, with one in four taking a flexitarian approach that reduces but doesn’t eliminate consumption of animal products — and cuts their carbon footprint in the process.

A quarter of global emissions come from food, but 60% of that figure is from animal products, and half of that from beef and lamb.
