KUALA LUMPUR: Graft busters have remanded three senior Pahang police officers, including a retired officer, over allegations of soliciting and receiving bribes amounting to about RM110,000 in exchange for protecting drug and ketum distribution activities in Pahang.

The suspects, aged between their 30s and 50s, were remanded for seven days until Aug 4, following an application made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Temerloh Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (July 29). Magistrate Tan Chiew King granted the remand order.

Sources said the three men were detained at about 8.30pm on Monday (July 28) when they appeared at the MACC Temerloh branch to give their statements.

“Initial investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in the alleged misconduct between 2022 and 2024. One of them is believed to have received monthly payments ranging from RM4,000 to RM5,000 via bank transfers to his personal account,” said the source.

“It is believed the money was then distributed to the other three suspects through their respective personal accounts.”

The case reportedly involves a total of four suspects who have been detained.

One of them has since been released on MACC bail after his statement was recorded.

Pahang MACC director Mohd Shukor Mahmud confirmed the arrests when contacted. He said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009 for soliciting or receiving gratification.
