Top seeds Soon Huat-Shevon advance to Singapore quarter-finals

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai met expectations by securing a spot in the Singapore Open quarter-finals, defeating China's Feng Yanzhe and Wei Yaxin on Thursday (May 29).
In the second-round match at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, top seeds Soon Huat-Shevon were challenged by the Chinese pair.
However, the 2018 champions remained composed, achieving a 21-11, 21-19 win in just 34 minutes.
They will next face Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran in the last eight.
In the men’s doubles, the all-Malaysian clash between Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and Wan Arif Wan Junaidi and Yap Roy King favoured the professionals.
Sze Fei-Izzuddin, currently ranked world No. 1, easily secured a 21-13, 21-11 win in just 33 minutes.
Also through to the quarter-finals are Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun.
The world No. 7 duo, buoyed by their Malaysian Masters triumph last week, defeated China's Huang Di and Liu Yang with a 21-16, 21-16 victory.
