Two men arrested over seditious posts, threat against PM on social media

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested two men suspected of spreading seditious statements and false allegations on social media, including criminal threats against the prime minister.
Federal police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the arrests were made in two separate cases involving a TikTok post and a Facebook comment.
"The first case involved a TikTok account under the name Mohd Soie, which contained seditious elements and insults towards the government.
"A 45-year-old local man was arrested for investigation under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said in a statement today.

He said the second case involved a comment posted on the Facebook account of Md Johan Ngadin, which contained a criminal threat against the prime minister.
"This case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
"A 44-year-old local man was also detained to assist in the investigation," he said.
He said police warned that action will be taken against anyone who creates, uploads, shares or spreads seditious content, criminal threats and false information.
He said this warning also covers content that could cause public unrest and disrupt social harmony, adding that enforcement action will be taken without compromise.
