UN human rights office raises concern around trial of Chinese dissident artist

GENEVA — The United Nations (UN) human rights office on Wednesday (April 15) said it was concerned by the trial of Chinese dissident artist Gao Zhen, famous for making provocative satirical sculptures of former leader Mao Zedong.
Gao was tried at the end of March over accusations of "slandering national heroes and martyrs", the UN human rights office said — a law which it said came into force more than a decade after the satirical sculptures were created.
