Hazards of war. If he loses the war his presidency goes with it. If he wins he will stay longer in his position. Don't think USA and NATO is looking to prolong the war it us also a huge strain for their countries. Their citizen will vote them out if the war continues on.

This feeling is only the beginning, if the war prolong for years. There won't be a decent place to lived in Ukraine anymore. The EU and the West are using Ukraine to wear down Russia economy by sending more arms instead of military intervention, they are too afraid that triggered Putin's wrath and send them the nukes to light up before Christmas even started.
