Unemployed man fit to stand trial for wife's murder
MUAR: A 32-year-old unemployed man, accused of murdering his wife and setting fire to nine of his in-laws vehicles in June, has been deemed fit to stand trial following a psychiatric evaluation.
The prosecution informed the Tangkak Sessions Court and magistrates court of this development today, citing a report issued by Permai Hospital in Johor Baru yesterday. The report concluded that the accused, Mohamad Khairul Azmi Ithnin, is fit to be charged under Section 302 and Section 435 of the Penal Code and to enter a plea.
Earlier, Ithnin was brought to the Tangkak magistrates court for the mention of his wifes, Iecah Junus, 34, murder case. The court set Oct 6 for further mention after the prosecution, led by deputy public prosecutor Amirah Sapian, said they had yet to receive the forensic report.
At the Sessions Court, Ithnin, who had earlier pleaded guilty to six of the nine arson charges, changed his plea to not guilty for the arsons involving his late wifes and brother-in-laws vehicles.
