A JOINT health screening and education programme between Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and government agencies benefitted more than 190 Orang Asli in Muallim, Perak.

The programme at SK Pos Bersih aimed to raise healthcare awareness among Orang Asli communities in villages such as Pos Bersih and Bangkong, the organising committee said in a statement.

Sharing sessions included topics like infectious diseases and the importance of handwashing, it added.

UiTM senior lecturer Fatimah Sham said the programme provided nursing students with community nursing exposure.

“Through hands-on field experience, they can enhance their social and teamwork skills, which are crucial in the healthcare sector,” she said.

Other activities included a healthy eating explorace, bandaging and sling demonstrations, aerobics session, breast self-examinations and TB screening.

The programme was organised by nursing undergraduates from UiTM Selangor branch under the UiTM Institute of Continuing Education & Professional Studies (iCEPS), in collaboration with various government bodies including Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa), Muallim District Education Office and Muallim District Health Office.
