The Standard reported the incident happened in DAMAC Tower, which is part of the Nine Elms development. According to the publication, the victim collapsed in the lobby of the building, which is located next to the US embassy in London.

On Saturday, GB News reported the luxury building was put under "lockdown", with management informing residents that the lifts were unable for use.

One resident said deliveries had been blocked and people were told to use the emergency stairs. A note sent by the managers of the building to residents said: "The police are presently on the premises, diligently managing the situation.

"We would like to assure you that the building is secure, and there is no cause for concern with your safety. As a precautionary measure, the police have requested that the elevators be temporarily unavailable while they conduct their investigation."

Detective Inspector Aytac Necati, who is leading the investigation, said: "Sadly, a man has lost his life in the most horrendous of circumstances. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

"We understand the effect this will have on the local community, and will ensure that officers are deployed on reassurance patrols to respond to any questions or concerns.

"Two men have already been arrested. Detectives are working hard to establish the circumstances of what happened. At this time, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident."

The Met has asked any person with information on the incident to get in touch by calling 101 stating CAD1719/5July. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.
