Verity Finally Has a Release Date—And It's Sooner Than You Think
Verity the movie is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Starring Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett, the romantic thriller adapted from Colleen Hoover's 2018 novel of the same name will be released in theaters Oct. 2, 2026, according to Deadline.
The news shouldn’t come as a shock to fans as Hathaway confirmed in April that filming finished. Sharing a video of herself flipping through the script, the Oscar winner wrote on Instagram, "So Be It… that’s a wrap on the #VerityMovie production!"
Throughout production, audiences were given glimpses into what they can expect to see on screen. In February, Hathaway and Hartnett were spotted shooting what appeared to be their characters Verity and Jeremy's meet-cute scene in New York City. At the time, the pair were seen holding hands and laughing as they hopped into a limo.
The following month, Hartnett shot another pivotal scene in which Lowen (played by Johnson) witnesses a cyclist being hit by a car, resulting in her being splattered in blood.
Directed by Michael Showalter, Verity is the second of Hoover’s books to be adapted for the big screen after 2024's It Ends With Us, which starred Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
The novel centers around struggling ghostwriter Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired by Jeremy Crawford to finish the popular book series created by his renowned author wife Verity Crawford after an accident leaves her unable to finish the job.
Upon moving in with the Crawfords, Lowen finds Verity's unfinished autobiography containing shocking confessions. Though she initially decides not to reveal the manuscript to Jeremy, Lowen starts to have second thoughts when she develops feelings for him.
“I’m basically the bad guy," Johnson told Deadline in May of her role. “It’s so fun.”
She continued, "I didn’t know what Verity was before I was sent the script, and it’s based on a Colleen Hoover novel that I guess is quite popular. People are really into it."

So far, it looks like the movie stays pretty close to the book."Upon arrival at the lavish Crawford estate, Lowen slowly learns that things are not exactly as they seem with the discovery of a secret, unfinished manuscript that may divulge chilling admissions about the family’s past,” the movie's logline, obtained by Variety, reads. "As Lowen ingratiates herself with Jeremy and his young son Crew, she must discern if Verity’s writings are merely lurid works of fiction or an ominous warning by a deranged psychopath."
