Verizon Fios down: Internet outages affect millions with complaints of 'total blackout'
Millions of people have been affected by a mass internet outage that has impacted Verizon coverage.
Outages were reported on the East Coast of the US at about 2am local time and led to numerous people complaining about the situation online. Some 40,000 cases were reported on DownDetector, a website that tracks real-time service disruptions.
An estimated 90 per cent of the complaintsrelated to internet services with nine per cent stating they had suffered a "total blackout." The remaining one per cent said it had affected TV streaming services.
Responding to a user in Ashburn, Virginia, a Verizon spokesperson said: "There is either an outage or network maintenance impacting your area. We don't have full details just yet.

"Our apologies for any inconvenience this is causing. We're trying to get all the information from our network team so we can provide you all an update."
According to NEWS.AZ, a user on X in Maryland posted an update from Verizon that said repairs had begun at 10:50pm local time, with service expected to be restore by 10:58am on Tuesday (local time).
Other areas that were affected by the outage include: Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Alexandria and Washington D.C. Verizon has advised people to reboot their routers and resetting your ONT battery.
Verizon Fios offers fibre-optic internet, TV and phone services. It is the largest mobile service provider in the country. In 2023, Verizon reported 144.8 million subscribers.
As well as Verizon, other major internet services providers - namely AT&T and Xfinity - also recorded numerous complaints of outages, according to DownDetector.
