SINGAPORE — Here is a round-up of sports events and developments in Singapore in the past week (3 to 9 July):
Four Singapore athletes will represent Singapore at the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris from 8 to 17 July.
The athletes who have qualified for this elite event are 2023 ASEAN Para Games medallists James Ethan Ang (men's 400m T13) and Muhammad Diroy Noordin (men's shot put F40), as well as Suhairi Suhani (men's long jump T20) and Maisarah Mohamed (women's 100m T36).
The World Para Athletics Championships will be a key event towards qualifying for the 2024 Paris Paralympics, with para-athletes finishing within the top four in their events earning the nod.
The Lion City Sailors announced on Sunday (9 July) the signing of Australian centre-back Bailey Wright on a two-year contract, with an option for an additional year’s extension.
The 30-year-old joins the Sailors after a 3.5-year spell at English club Sunderland, after helping the club earn promotion into the Sky Bet Championship in 2022. He made 107 appearances for the Black Cats, regularly captaining the side.
