This year, I’m celebrating my 30th birthday. It’s gonna be the first time since birth I’m not celebrating this moment with the brave lady who raised me, along with my grandfather. My grandmother died after years and years of suffering. It’s a relief, but damn it hurts.

A few hours before her death, the last day I saw her – I slept a few hours to recover from this terrible night as she asked mercy.

In this dream, I saw her dead, laying on the bed, her husband held her and cried. I immediately sent a message to my companion to tell him about this disturbing picture I’ve seen a few times since the idea of losing her caused me huge anxiety issues.

Then, right after this nightmare, I learnt about her – she passed away as I was peacefully sleeping in my bed. It’s been a month she’s gone now and, I know it’s strange but I totally stopped dreaming about her.

This morning, I just woke up in my family’s house. I heard the distinct voice saying hi. It was nice and sweet. I responded “yes ?” as my grandfather who sleeps in his room next to mine answered “yeah?”

I asked him if he was calling me and said no. I used to work in a funeral home for years as a counselor, I know grief may lead to hallucinations.

Have you ever had a dream about your loved ones who eventually died, moments ago ? Do you think it’s pure coincidence, a simple sign of empathy since I felt extremely worried about her ?

Do you think I – myself – talked while I was asleep ? I know a lot of my friends confirmed I’m a sleeptalker. Anyway, that’s not the most thrilling experience I witnessed but I’m curious about these two moments : first the dream, secondly, the call.
