I reported my boss’s boss to HR and I’m afraid I’ve started a war.

Sooo… I’m new to this corporate position with a very large bank, but i’m an entry level project coordinator. I mean nobody reports to me. I’m a noob. SO, Let’s call him Brian, he’s a regional manager and he hosted a happy hour at a pub with my team.

He was next to me and 3 others who heard. Basically, unsolicited and unwarranted, out of the blue he said that the woman mentoring and leading my training (call her Lindsey) would not be attending the next session because she just found out this week that she has breast cancer.

Lindsey wasn’t there. And the next training, she mentioned nothing like “as you know, Brian has informed you I have cancer…” NO that didn’t happen. SHE is unaware he spilled her medical information.

He disclosed her personal information to my team over happy hour! It’s like he said it to draw attention to himself like “I hold this golden news” but Lindsey wasn’t there to tell HER story. He robbed her of her voice.

Now I’ve reported the story to HR and they’re going to interview the 3 other witnesses I listed.

I asked to remain anonymous. But I have a feeling by process of elimination they’ll find out I was the rat who went to HR. But I thought it was wrong of him to take that from her.

UGHHH I fear retaliation. What if he makes my life harder or maybe he will move me to another team. I almost backed out of telling HR but they assured me of the non-retaliation policy and I opened this can of worms.

Any advice? what’s going to happen next? Damnit.
