I honestly sometimes look forward to my fiance being asleep when I get home so I can unwind in peace.

My fiance (M28) used to support both of us while I (F26) was finishing school so I was home often & literally waited for his arrival home because I missed him.

I’d bombard him as soon as he got inside & he would almost always brush me off like it was too much. I didn’t understand at the time how crucial that 1-2 hour is when you get home from a laborious job in the sun all day.

Well I have a new job now that keeps me on my feet much more than the last one. I’m actually physically tired when I get home & just want 30 minutes to gather my thoughts in silence.

My fiance now does what I used to do to him (not on purpose) & I absolutely see the frustration it can cause. Sometimes I just want to tell him to “shut up, I’ve been in the house 3 minutes??”

But I know he doesn’t mean any harm by it, were just bestfriends who love each other. Often now though i’m relieved when he’s already asleep & I can watch my crime shows & eat my snacks in peace.

This reminds me of when I was a kid and would think my mom was an a-hole in the morning. And then I grew up a bit, and started hating mornings too and realized that I too was an a-hole in the morning. And then I grew up even more and realized my mom was just an a-hole regardless of the time of the day

Right on, love my wife but sometimes I just really need some alone time.

If you want your marriage to work I’d highly recommend very open conversation. My wife and I talk openly about everything (been together 16 years) and she knows (because I’ve told her) when I get home I’d like to just do my own thing for 30 min… whether that’s being on my phone, on the toilet, playing with the dogs.. whatever it is. I know she’s the opposite of me and most days I get home an hour before she does so it works out!
