A woman was seen asking online if there is a way where she can stop the bank from loaning money to her Dad as he is always very susceptible to scams and has already fallen victim to these scammers many times.

Here is what she shared

‘Hi all, my elderly dad lost $13k USD to a bitcoin scammer 2 years ago. However after they stole the money, they contacted him saying they need $4k to unlock the stolen funds.

Of course anyone with a shred of intellect would know that’s a scam, but he went against my family’s advice and went to loan money to pay this. Needless to say, he didn’t get his money back.

The scammers still have the gall to call him every few months with different numbers to say that it was some clerical error or they’re calling from a recovery firm.

Every time we’ll catch him talking to them and stop him from doing so. But we’re tired, my mom can’t sleep properly worried about this. Today it happened again and we overheard him saying he was going to take a loan in order to unlock the funds.

Tomorrow, I’ll be bringing him to cancel his phone line (hopefully to prevent them from contacting him). But anyone has any advice on how I can possibly request banks not to disburse any loans to him?

We have already contacted most of his close friends and family members not to loan any money to him in the instance that he tries to ask them for a loan.

Is there anything we can do legally so that we can have some peace of mind? Thanks.”

Here are what netizens have to say

I would start w a police report then writing to banks? Having said that…. whats to stop him from going to ah longs for a loan?

I always wonder how scammers can keep scamming people despite there being so many warnings and notices and all. And now i know people like your dad exist… amazing.

Cancel all of his credit lines with every bank i.e. credit cards and line of credit. But as another user just mentioned, nothing stopping him from going to loan sharks…

Contact the bank and scam hotline they can help to freeze the accounts. And also spend more time with your dad to help him understand how technology works. Sometimes knowledge is power
