JOHOR BARU: The country's first large-scale water reclamation plant dedicated to data centre operations was launched in Ulu Tiram here yesterday.
Bridge Data Centres (BDC) president Eric Fan said construction began about 10 months ago and the project included a full pipeline system to transport municipal wastewater to its treatment facilities.

"The wastewater is processed into high-grade, pure water for use at our data centre.
"Overall, this is a demonstration to the Malaysian and Johor governments on addressing water constraint issues for the industry. I think it serves as a benchmark for the data centre sector," he said during a visit to the plant.
"I believe that the plant is the first in Malaysia specifically to treat water for the cooling process at data centres."
Present were Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and state Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Lee Ting Han.
"This project is running and in the final stages of testing and commissioning," said Fan.
He said the initiative promoted sustainability by using treated effluent that would otherwise be discharged, instead of sourcing water from rivers.
Indah Water Konsortium's JB-Pelangi Sewage Treatment Plant will supply four million litres of treated effluent to the BDC water reclamation plant daily.
Johor Special Water Sdn Bhd will oversee the delivery of the treated effluent and coordinate with local authorities to obtain approvals. Bernama
