If you reached the major twist at the end of We Were Liars on Prime Video, you might be living with a Beechwood-sized hole in your heart while you wait for season two. Luckily, we already have some clues about what is to come, and the book’s prequel novel may have all your answers.

As you know, the hit Prime Video show starring Emily Alyn Lind, Esther McGregor, Joseph Zada, and Shubham Maheshwari was based on E. Lockhart’s best-selling 2014 book of the same name, all about the rich Sinclair family and their dark secrets.

Well, the Sinclairs’ story continued in 2022 when Lockhart published Family of Liars, a prequel centered on the mothers in the first book, their childhood, and the lies that shook the family’s foundations. The producers of the television adaptation hinted that We Were Liars season 2 could follow the events of this book, so you may want to snag a copy of it while you can.

While We Were Liars season 2 is not yet confirmed, the show’s showrunners, Julie Plec and Carina Adly Mackenzie told Variety in a June 20 interview that it will “ideally” follow the plot of Family of Liars.

“I think our goal would be, as we move to subsequent seasons, to continue to build out the world and the bloodline and the stories of the past,” Plec said. “Who are the Sinclairs, and how did they become this way?”

Family of Liars is the next step in that journey, and, in case you were wondering: Yes, there is a twist just like in the first book in the series. Get your copy before season 2!
