Wingman (mewatch, Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel, Sept 10)

The new Mediacorp reality dating show rounds up eight sexy singletons from around Southeast Asia, all holed up in a villa. They will try to get, er, lucky… with love with a little help from their best pal, aka the wingman (or wingwoman). The last couple standing take home S$20,000, while the winning wing-person is S$10,000 richer. (By the way, is there a clause that states how long the couple must stay together after winning a prize?) The series will launch with four eps, followed by two new instalments every Thursday until the Oct 8 finale. With 987’s Germaine Tan as host.

Disney+ most-watched original K-drama — with a reported ₩70 billion (S$65 mil) price tag, one of the country’s most expensive productions — returns. Season 2 picks up in 1979, nine years after the event of Season 1, with the corrupt Baek Ki-tae (Hyun Bin) now second-in-command at the Korean Central Intelligence Agency. But with his nemesis, prosecutor Jang Geong-young (Jung Woo-sung) plotting a comeback, how long will Baek stay on top?

The Drop: A Snowfall Saga (Disney+, Sept 9)

This spin-off of John Singleton’s crack-epidemic drama Snowfall —  which made F1’s Damson Idris a star — centres on the rise of hip-hop in 1990s Los Angeles (long live Tupac!), as seen through the eyes of recovering addict Wanda Bell (Gail Bean) and her music prodigy cousin Lamar Kinsey (Asante Blackk).

The Paper, Season 2 (HBO Max, Sept 9)

More spin-off business. An offshoot of The Office, The Paper follows the same documentary crew that shadowed Dunder Mifflin as it chronicles the day-to-day operations of a dying local broadsheet in the Midwest. Per the logline: “Ned (Domhnall Gleeson) searches for a journalistic crusade after sweeping the Ohio Journalism Awards. He goes after a local private club and puts the Toledo Truth Teller in jeopardy. While he and Mare (Chelsea Frei) try to figure out their attraction, Esmeralda (Sabrina Impacciatore) struggles to find her place and the staff gradually mature as reporters.”

Physical 100: Italy (Netflix, Sept 11)

Netflix’s reality competition show now has an Italian edition! You know the drill: 100 contestants  —  from Olympic champs to content creators to professional athletes  — will face off in a series of gruelling obstacles designed to push their physical and mental resilience to the limit. It’s fitting that the show has an Italian version: it’s a callback to the gladiatorial spectacles of ancient Rome. Except this time the losers aren’t fed to the lions. (Netflix: maybe for Season 2? Have a think.) This isn’t the only Physical 100 spin-off: the Mexico edition drops Sept 16.

This 14-part K-drama stars Seo Kang-joon and Ahn Eun-jin as a couple — he’s a bakery executive and she’s a filmmaker — asking the inevitable question as their relationship enters its 10th year: should they move forward with marriage or go their separate ways and find a love elsewhere? You read this kind of stuff on Reddit all the time.
