Ghost in the Shell (Prime Video, July 7)
Six years ago, Netflix had a go with Shirow Masamune’s landmark cyberpunk manga. Called Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, that show was fully animated in 3D CG. The latest iteration produced by the acclaimed Science Saru studio (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off), however, is hand-drawn, an approach designed to honour the source material’s 1980s aesthetics. The seven-part series follows the story of cyborg super-agent Motoko Kusanagi as she stumbles upon a conspiracy while investigating a hacker known as The Puppet Master. As she slides down the digital rabbit hole, she also uncovers some secrets about herself.

Better Late Than Single (Netflix, July 7)
Netflix’s other K-reality dating show — with the word ‘single’ in the title — returns with more heartbreaking, heartwarming, and cringe-inducing moments. Celebrity hosts Seo In-guk, Kang Hanna, Lee Eun-ji and Car, the Garden (yes, that’s his name) are back to prepare a group of socially awkward singletons for the unpredictable world of dating. For some of us watching at home — especially those who didn’t make the cut for Mediacorp’s own dating show Wingman — pay attention, you may learn something.

Little House on the Prairie (Netflix, July 9)
For some folks of a certain age, the original Western historical drama series — based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s semi-autobiographical book series and starring Michael Landon — was essential viewing back in the day (from 1974 to 1983). This new version stars Luke Bracey and Crosby Fitzgerald as Pa and Ma Ingalls, who lead their brood (Skywalker Hughes and Alice Halsey) to settle down in the New Frontier.

The Five Star Weekend (HBO Max, July 9)
Nope, this isn’t a Discovery travelogue but it sure as hell looks like one. This eight-part drama stars Jennifer Garner as a food influencer who invites four friends (Chloe Sevigny, Regina Hall, D’Arcy Carden and Gemma Chan) down for a weekend in Nantucket following a devastating loss. But as the weekend unfolds, the pals discover new secrets about one another. Does that mean they aren’t doing this get-together again?
