Emma Heming Willisis willing to die hard on the hill of her husband Bruce Willis’ health.

One week after the 47-year-old revealed the Sixth Sense actor is living in a separate home to receive around-the-clock care for frontotemporal dementia (FTD), she responded to criticism over the update, standing by the decision she made to prioritize his needs.

"Dementia plays out differently in everyone's home and you have to do what's right for your family dynamic and what's right for your person," Emma told People in an interview published Sept. 3. "It's heartbreaking to me. But this is how we were able to support our whole family, [and] it has opened up Bruce's world."

The model—who shares daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, with Bruce—noted that moving her husband into their one-story “second home” was the “hardest thing,” but she made the decision because his condition "requires a calm and serene atmosphere."

"We have two young children, and it was just important that they had a home that supported their needs and that Bruce could have a place that supported his needs,” Emma continued. “The kids can have playdates and sleepovers [again] and not have to walk around tiptoeing."

She added, "Everything just feels a lot calmer, more at ease now."

Emma also explained that Bruce—who is also dad to daughters Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 31, with ex-wife Demi Moore—is constantly sharing special moments with his loved ones at his house.

"I get to go back to being Bruce's wife and the kids can be kids and there's beauty in that and I'm so grateful for that," she explained. "I just get to be with him in these moments and that is because of this set up we have. It's been helpful for us."

As for how Emma has dealt with critics of her decision to live separately from the Die Hard star? She is reminding herself that only she and her family know what’s best for Bruce.

“Everyone will have an opinion, but you have to remind yourself that most don’t have the experience to back it up,” she said in an Aug. 29 Instagram video in response to backlash. "Even if someone is closely familiar with dementia or the condition you are caring for, they aren't in your home, so they don't know how your person is behaving or your family dynamics."

Emma concluded, "The truth is that the opinions are so loud and they're so noisy. But if they don't have the experience of this, they don't get a say, and they definitely don't get a vote."
