Why Seth Rogen Is "Legitimately Embarrassed" by Emmys 2025 Win
This award season win is straight out of a movie script.
The Studio was crowned Outstanding Comedy Series at the 2025 Emmy Awards on Sept. 14—and the moment was pure movie magic. (Find out all the winners here.)
Creators Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Alex Gregory, Peter Huyck and Frida Perez accepted the award on behalf of the meta Apple TV+ show, which stars Rogen as well as Catherine O'Hara, Ike Barinholtz and Kathryn Hahn as movie executives at the fictional Continental Studios.
Taking the stage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Rogen admitted he felt awkward about accepting his third trophy of the night after already winning Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Best Writing for a Comedy Series and Best Directing for a Comedy Series.
"Thank you, it's getting embarrassing," Rogen said on stage. "I really appreciate it, in all honesty. I'll do my best attempt at sincerity here: If you watched our show, if you appreciated our show, if you voted for our show, especially, thank you very much."
The Superbad actor continued, "I'm legitimately embarrassed by how happy this makes me. And to be standing up here with all these people, these are the best people I know. And to have them spend their days with me, working with me, is truly one of the great honors of my life."
The Studio—which received 23 Emmy nominations in total—beat outfellow nomineesThe Bear, Nobody Wants This, Abbott Elementary, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking, What We Do In The Shadows and Hacks, which won last year.
In addition to a nod in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, the Television Academy also recognized Rogen, O'Hara, Barinholtz and Hahn with acting nominations.
Plus, actors Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco, Ron Howard, Anthony Mackie and Martin Scorsese—who made cameos in the satire—duked it out for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series alongside The Bear's Jon Bernthal, with Cranston coming out on top.
For Rogen, the show is heavily based on his own experience working in Hollywood. In fact, award show moments like this have even inspired certain scenes.
“There’s an episode in particular about the Golden Globes and the whole thing is my character just wants desperately to be thanked in the Golden Globe speech,” he explained on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in March, "which is very important to Hollywood executives."
As Rogen recalled, “Years ago, we made a film that won a Golden Globe, and at the afterparty, we saw one of the executives crying, and we assumed they were crying because we won and they were happy. We went over and we’re like, ‘We won! Is that why you’re crying?’ And they said, ‘No, they forgot to thank me during the speech.'”
And the anonymous exec was even less thrilled to learn that the incident made it to the silver screen.
"The person who it’s based on knows that we made a whole episode about it," Rogen added, "and, in no uncertain terms, yelled at me very recently.”
