A couple in China, Hebei has proven again that age is just a number.

A 23-year-old woman, known only as Xiao Fang, was volunteering at a nursing home when she met 80-year-old Li. The two became fast friends as they have many similar interests and hobbies.

After spending some time together, Xiao Fang found herself drawn to Li’s maturity and intelligence, while Li was attracted to Xiao Fang’s youthfulness and kindness. Despite their 57-year age gap, the two became a couple.

However, Xiao Fang’s parents frowned upon their relationship. They felt the couple was unsuitable for each other because of their large age gap, and believed Li was “making use of” Xiao Fang.

Xiao Fang was torn but ultimately decided to follow her heart. She chose to be with Li and cut ties with her parents.

Xiao Fang and Li eventually got married in a simple ceremony in their hometown.

Since the wedding, Xiao Fang and Li find joy in doing every day things like taking walks and household chores together.

Things haven't been smooth sailing for the couple though. In 2024, Li's health started declining and Xiao Fang had to become his caretaker and take over their finances.

Xiao Fang and Li’s story has gone viral on Chinese social media, and though some netizens remain skeptical and have accused Xiao Fang of being a gold digger, others have called it a “love story that transcends age”.
