Woman Behind Viral Video About Boyfriend Looking Like Her Late Dad Is Not Bothered By Comments Calling It Weird
If you’re on TikTok often, chances are you may have come across a recent video from TikTok user @fleo0998 in which she notes the resemblance between her boyfriend and her late dad.
The video, which has over 4mil views and 6,000 comments, begins with the OP showing a photo of her late father. "They said my papa died in 2008," she wrote.
“But I saw him again in a music festival in 2023. He asked “hi, what’s your name?” she added, this time showing photos of her boyfriend, whom she feels looks a lot like her dad.
She also included more photos of her boyfriend, remarking on the similarity between his eyes and those of her late father’s.
Her clip immediately gained attention online, with many netizens bringing up Sigmund Freud's Electra complex, which suggests a girl’s unconscious attraction towards her father.
One popular comment read: “RIP Sigmund Freud. You would’ve loved this TikTok.”
8days.sg reached out to @fleo0998 and it turns out that it was all made in good fun, and really not that deep.
The OP, who goes by Jil, and is from Jakarta, tells us she did not expect her TikTok to go viral. “I made that video because I was touched to see [such] trends on my For You Page, and suddenly got the idea to make my own,” she says.
Unlike what her caption suggests, the resemblance between her boyfriend and her dad was not something Jil noticed at first glance.
“Actually I noticed that he looks like my father six months after we met, after a relative of mine said he looks like papa. Everyone in my family, friends, and his family said that he does look like my papa,” she says.
Jil also reveals she was not that close to her dad as her parents got divorced when she was three, and she had not lived with him since then.
However, she still loved her dad. “[But] not in the Freud way because he loved his family so much and would do anything to make us happy,” she adds.
She had wished to convey a sweet message with her video. She tells 8days.sg: “Life is unpredictable, [but] the universe will always send someone to protect and love us."
Jil says the numerous Freud comments and remarks about her video being “weird” have not gotten to her. In fact, she finds them entertaining, and only takes offense when people comment on her partner’s looks. “But no problem, it’s the internet,” she says.
Jil adds: “Oh and [I] just wanna make it clear: [The] bottom line is, I don’t love him because he looks like papa. He’s a very nice guy with a kind heart.”
