Woman Complains About NDP Crowd-Control Detours At MBS; Gets Slammed For Being Entitled

There have been mall and pedestrian route diversions in City Hall and the vicinity every Saturday since June 14 due to the National Day Parade (NDP) rehearsals and previews.

However, it seems at least one person has taken issue with such measures, complaining about how it has inconvenienced her greatly.

A Threads user posted her frustration over the weekend when she visited Marina Bay Sands (MBS), posting pictures of metal barricades and signs showing the distance to various MRT stations.

“Please wake up to what you’re doing. Blocked doors, confusing layouts, and poor accessibility. This is not user-friendly, especially for the elderly, tired, or those with limited mobility,” she ranted.

Calling it “cruelty in disguise, and not progress”, she further complained, “You talk about inclusivity, but actions speak louder. Please walk the ground, experience it yourself, and make changes. Singapore deserves better.”

She ended her post by writing that she was “shacked (sic) from walking from end to the other … and back!”

It is unclear who is the “you” she was referring to.

If she was looking for support online, she was sorely disappointed.

Netizens slammed her for being entitled and pointed out the barricades are for public safety during a time when hordes of people are expected in the area because of the NDP activities.

“We do this to prevent stampedes. Didn’t you read about the one in South Korea that caused 159 deaths in 2022?” one netizen commented.

Another praised MBS for cordoning off certain areas during this period and wrote: “I was there, and honestly, just imagine tens of thousands of people leaving without clear directions, it would’ve been chaos. Proper crowd control really makes a difference.”

Though some have asked her to simply return after August 9, we can't imagine how much more she will spiral when the Singapore F1 Grand Prix comes to town in October with multiple road closures happening then as well.
